My Story
My deep love and commitment to studying and working with the digestive tract started in 2002 when I learned that I had contracted a parasite during my brief study abroad in Ecuador. Existing in my body for 1.5 years allowed the parasite to grow to about 1.5 feet long. When it came out, I began to experience unexpected and disruptive symptoms; dizziness, fainting spells, sensations of extreme hunger, depression, bloating, weight loss, indigestion. After seeing 7 doctors and spending 6 long years searching for answers, I was finally diagnosed with a gastrointestinal, nutritionally-based, auto-immune disease ---- celiac disease.
Within 2 weeks of my diagnosis and 2 weeks of compliance with a gluten-free diet, all of my symptoms disappeared. Knowing how GREAT I now felt and remembering just how long and hard a journey I had endure in order to get diagnosed, I decided that I needed to be a healthcare practitioner who could help those suffering with gastrointestinal disorders of all kinds.
After over 10 years of practicing as a clinical dietitian at UCLA, my expertise and interest has expanded to conditions involving the immune system, allergies, rheumatological disorders, dysautonomia and the role of diet to reduce inflammation in the body.
