My Story
My deep love and commitment to studying and working with the digestive tract started in 2002 when I learned that I had contracted a parasite during my brief study abroad in Ecuador. Existing in my body for 1-1/2 years allowed the parasite to grow to about 1-1/2 feet long. When it came out, I began to experience unexpected and disruptive symptoms; dizziness, fainting spells, sensations of extreme hunger, depression, bloating, weight loss, indigestion. After seeing 7 doctors and spending 6 long years searching for answers, I was finally diagnosed with a nutritionally-based, auto-immune disease ---- celiac disease.
Within 2 weeks of my diagnosis and 2 weeks of compliance with a gluten-free diet, all of my symptoms disappeared. Knowing how GREAT I now felt and remembering just how long and hard a journey I had endure in order to get diagnosed, I decided that I needed to be a healthcare practitioner who could help those suffering with celiac disease and gastrointestinal disorders of all kinds.
